As we have mentioned before, we based our chess on the Reactable, a collaborative musical instrument inspired by modular synthesizers from the 70’s and developed by the Grupo de Tecnología Musical at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.

The Reactable has a tangible interface consisting of a table, actually, a translucent board, illuminated underneath. There, a camera analyses the surface and tracks the moves of the objects placed on the board which are marked with fiducial codes on their base.

Fiducial codes are marks allocated to objects that are tracked and interpreted by software programming. We have used vvvv but there are other applications that could have served for the purpose. Click on the chart for better understanding.
